Cannon Beach and a not-so-Disappointing Cape

Cannon Beach is apparently where they filmed parts of "The Goonies" movie.

This is what Matt looks like the morning after biking 60 miles.

Chels catching some waves at Cape Disappointment. This is where Louis and Clark ended their cross American expedition in the mid 1800's. We could tell you more about them but we couldn't afford the entrance fee into the museum made in their honour. Try google.
Delicious camouflage Miller High Life beer...it's cheap, it's big and you can go hunting with it.

The best meal of the trip so far: fresh caught Albacore Tuna...we saw the guy filleting it when we arrived.

Kalaloch to Lake Quinault, WA

Chels is displaying her awesome biking shorts tan. The picture doesn't quite do it justice.

Jess and Devon - our new friends from Bellingham!

Matt found a log to fish from in Quinault Lake. Landed a decent trout that made the guy in the fancy fishing boat next to him pretty angry.

Kalaloch, Washington

This portion of the trip happened a few weeks ago so hopefully I can remember all the details properly...

Kalaloch campground was GORGEOUS! steps away from a huge beach reminiscent of Long Beach in Tofino for those of you who have been up Vancouver Island. This is where we met two incredible souls named Jess and Devon. We ended up biking and camping with them for a few days and shared some great experiences and conversations with both of them...

Matt had some luck fishing and we enjoyed a delicious rainbow trout dinner.

This is apparently one of the largest cedar trees in the world. It seems the US is full of the "World's largest" something or other...

Oregoners...

We just crossed a 5 mile long bridge with no shoulder over the border and into Astoria, Oregon. It's exciting to be in a largish small town again!

Our internet access has been pretty patchy, and I'm having trouble uploading our pictures to blogger, so this is just a short post to let everyone who's interested know that we are safe (and sound, physically if not mentally).

We're just about to set off in search of a grocery store. Grocery shopping is, generally, my favorite part of any day. Food becomes a bit of an obsession when you are biking 5-6 hours a day!

Lots of love to all, and we'll do our best to upload some more pictures soon.

In the beginning...

So after some minor melodrama and some major scrambling, we finally left Vancouver and started out on our journey last Sunday. It was a miserable, worst-case scenario kind of day, but we remained cheerful. And that bright yellow thing I'm wearing is a "safety sash". I don't want my Mom to worry. Plus, it makes me feel like a beauty queen!

We hit the road towards the Tsawassen ferries. Judging from these pictures, Matt was grumpy. And eating a lot of tuna.

After a full night's rest in Victoria (courtesy of our friend Kris) and an entire pizza each (it's amazing how much you can eat after biking 70 km), we began the next morning in better shape. We hopped on the very retro Coho ferry to Port Angeles and made our way to Washington state.

We spent the night camping in the Elwha river valley, which is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. The next day we even had a full day of sun, which meant that Matt finally had time to get some fishing in.

Matt's knee has been bugging him a bit, so we splurged last night and spent the night in a very seedy motel in the town of Forks. Forks, for anyone who isn't currently a fourteen year old girl or secretly reading fiction intended for fourteen year old girls, is the town where the book series 'Twilight' takes place. It is mega-touristy and hilarious.

We're off for now, and will update from the next seedy small town library we can find. Love!
